چکیده

In this work, we utilize the framework of compressed sensing (CS) for distributed device detection and resource allocation in large-scale machine-to-machine (M2M) communication networks. The devices deployed in the network are partitioned into clusters according to some pre-defined criteria, e.g., proximity or service type. Moreover, the devices in each cluster are assigned a unique signature of a particular design that can be used to indicate their active status to the network. The proposed scheme in this work mainly consists of two essential steps: (i) The base station (BS) detects the active clusters and the number of active devices in each cluster using a novel block sketching algorithm, and then assigns a certain amount of resources accordingly. (ii) Each active device detects its ranking among all the active devices in its cluster using an enhanced greedy algorithm and accesses the corresponding resource for transmission based on the ranking. The particular design for both full-duplex and half-duplex networks are investigated. By exploiting the correlation in the device behaviors and the sparsity in the activation pattern of the M2M devices, the device detection problem is thus tackled as a CS support recovery procedure for a particular binary block-sparse signal x ∈ B – with block sparsity KB and in-block sparsity KI over block size d. Theoretical analysis shows that, using the proposed scheme, the activation pattern of the M2M devices can be reliably reconstructed within an acquisition time of O(max{KB logN,KBKI log d}), which achieves a better scaling and less computational complexity of O(N(K I + logN)) compared with standard CS algorithms. Moreover, extensive simulations confirm the robustness of the proposed scheme in the detection process, especially in terms of higher detection probability and reduced access delay when compared with conventional schemes like LTE random access (RA) procedure and classic cluster-based access approaches.

A Block-Wise random sampling approach: Compressed sensing problem

The focus of this paper is to consider the compressed sensing problem. It is stated that the compressed sensing theory, under certain conditions, helps relax the Nyquist sampling theory and takes smaller samples. One of the important tasks in this theory is to carefully design measurement matrix (sampling operator). Most existing methods in the literature attempt to optimize a randomly initiali...

Energy-Efficient Sensing in Wireless Sensor Networks Using Compressed Sensing

Sensing of the application environment is the main purpose of a wireless sensor network. Most existing energy management strategies and compression techniques assume that the sensing operation consumes significantly less energy than radio transmission and reception. This assumption does not hold in a number of practical applications. Sensing energy consumption in these applications may be compa...

Adaptive Distributed Compressed Video Sensing

Compressed sensing is a state-of-the-art technology which can significantly reduce the number of sampled data in sparse signal acquisition. This paper studies the distributed compressed sensing (DISCOS) of video signals. To this end, we propose adaptive adjustments to the block-based (local) measurement rate, the frame-based (global) measurement rate, and the sparse dictionary size, thus formin...

Multiband distributed sensing based on compressed measurements via two AICs implementations

We develop a distributed multiband spectrum sensing detector for cognitive radios based on compressed measurements that does not rely on signal reconstruction. A fusion centre collects the measurements from different sensing nodes and then makes a sensing decision based on a simplified maximum likelihood criterion which is valid for both analog to information implemented in the paper (MWC and N...

Power Allocation and Measurement Matrix Design for Block CS-Based Distributed MIMO Radars

—Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radars offer higher resolution, better target detection, and more accurate target parameter estimation. Due to the sparsity of the targets in space-velocity domain, we can exploit Compressive Sensing (CS) to improve the performance of MIMO radars when the sampling rate is much less than the Nyquist rate. In distributed MIMO radars, block CS methods can be ...
